O-hi-O

The flight left right on time Friday morning, with one stop in Philly, it was on to Dayton International Airport.
We were a bit late because the inbound flight that we were waiting for in Philadelphia was a bit delayed.
As I got off the plane, I noticed a voice mail from my dearest Muncie friend, who was driving up to meet me for dinner, so I called. Wouldn’t you know it, they were just coming to the Dayton Airport Exit on the highway, so they swung by to pick me up (no shuttle) and take me to the hotel (Doubletree Inn – Downtown Dayton). I know this was her witchiness that caused the synchronicity. There are no coincidences!
We had a lovely dinner and chatted until 11pm, then they had to head home to take care of their dogs. It was soooooo good to see R and J.
Saturday, I decided to take a walk to a yarn shop that was supposed to be close to the hotel… alas it was not, and to be honest walking around downtown Dayton, was most depressing as most storefronts were empty.
The other friends that were flying in for the wedding arrived in the early part of the day, so we had some lunch in the hospitality room, the bride and groom had provided and got introduced to members of the family and their friends.
The wedding was held at the Packard Car Museum a couple of blocks from the hotel. The building was an old car dealership at one time.
The wedding ceremony was beautiful as was the bride, and it was great to see Cathy and Diane again.
To get back to the hotel, we got to ride in this!

Yes, that is my Icarus Shawl draped over my arm.
Congratulations again to Beth and Stan!
I had an early (6:30AM) flight out – which I almost missed by sleeping through both of the alarms I had set. But a good cabbie got me there fast and I did manage to make my flight, with a stop in DC and then on to Logan Airport, I was home by 11:30AM
I did manage a little knitting (toe-up socks) in during the flights and layovers. I’ve also started my nephew Jeffrey’s Gansey sweater. My sister dyed up some Kona Superwash in this gorgeous loden green that is heathery and just beautiful. Pictures to follow.
Darling Daughter was fine (she stayed with friends of mine while I was in Dayton) – there was one little glitch but she did manage to go to the Nine Inch Nails concert. Libby sent me a picture of DD and a friend of Libby’s dancing in the rain at the concert.

Somebody looks happy!

8th Grade Graduation

Sigh… I'm offically now the mother of a high school student. On one hand I'm thinking it was just yesterday they were in kindergarten while on the other hand I'm secretly chanting "four more years!"

Updates…
June 14, 2006 · 1 Comment
Saturday, I sold dropped my DD into indentured servitude off at my friends so that she could help them out with some chores for which they paid her way too much quite handsomely. Who knew she could clean bathrooms? Hmmm, no more excuses hehehe.
Then I headed up Nashua for the KIP gathering and was soon joined by a gaggle of knitters, I cannot remember everyone's name, so rather than leave someone out, I'll just say, you know who you are. Thanks Jennifer for being the point person on this gathering.
The new cafe at Borders, looks very similar to the 'other' cafe, but coffee is better (Seattle's Best), not to mention they were handing out free cups of coffee
I unfortnately could not stay too long, but I did get quite a bit done on the Shoalwater Shawl. Which btw, is going to be gorgeous!
I then flew off to pick up DD and head down to Grandma's for dinner and trip to the mall to find shoes (size 11!) for DD's graduation next week.
We not only managed to find shoes for her, but a skirt for me, and we left with Grandma and DD not speaking to each other, and for which both seemed to think it was all my fault.
Sunday, after asking and being assured several times that if I dropped DD off at the Summerfest Battle of the Bands to meet up with friends so I could go off to a party that she did indeed have a firm ride home… can you guess? She called me in the middle of the party to say she needed a ride home. I was not happy.
To be honest I was kind of glad to see Monday come so I could head off to work and not have to deal with the hourly drama of teenager-dom.
Oh and somewhere along the way I cast on the really yummy pink Regia Silk sock yarn. I decided after much himming and hawing I would do the New England Socks from Nancy Bush's book "Knitting on the Road". I really love knitting with this yarn and if holds up nicely, I may never use any other sock yarn again.

Icarus Complete
June 9, 2006 · 6 Comments
It actually cleared a bit so I could go outside and take some pictures of the Icarus. I did add an extra repeat for me…. being a big girl, I like my shawls big too.
I used almost one skein of Helen’s Lace Merino in the colorway Java.
BTW, The location for the Nashua World Wide Knit in Public Day has been changed to Border’s Bookstore New Cafe on the DWHwy (behind Chilis). It’s still this Saturday from 2 – 5:00 pm
I hope you can make it.

When life gives you lemons…

turn your bathroom into a spa. At least that's how my friend Nancy put it.
The plumbers just left and the good news is they fixed the drain in the tub, the bad news is I need a new tub. Apparently the idiot who fixed it last time, used some foam crap to add support to the bottom of the tub and it cause the tub itself to crack. So, I was bumming about this, then I figure what the heck, I wanted and needed to remodel the bathroom so I guess now is the time, and since I need a new tub, I'm thinking bigger and whirlpool.
Last night at the Java Room was fun. Lucia, Liz, Julie, Joanne, Nicole, Jena, and I'm forgetting someone else, were all there. This is such a great group, we laugh, we knit, we laugh, we get loud and try to scare the tinfoil hat people Philosophy group away by discussing "women's issues and products". This is always fun.
I finished casting off the socks. And started the Shoalwater Shawl. I love that you can knit this in anything from laceweight to Dk or Worsted. I decided to push the envelope and do it in a light bulky of handpainted merino that is sooooooo soft. I also wanted to add some interest so I'm using 2 complimenting colorways – a varigated called violet lettuce and a solid lettuce. The colorways on the website, but don't begin to do this justice. I'm doing 2 rows of each and so far I really really love it. This will be my shawl for camping. It will be perfect for those chilly nights around the campfire.
I'm waiting for this horrible weather to break so I can get some photos of my Icarus Shawl. I just can't get a decent photo indoors.
I'm also concerned that this weather is not going to change before our WWKIP outing. I guess we are going to end up Borders – at least the new cafe is open. But we can still hope.

Exhibit during Evening of Jazz: Annual Resident Artists' Show
This is at my sister's gallery in Lowell, and I have been to this event before and had a blast. It's all the wine (or coffee, or soda) you can drink with finger foods. The band is awesome . It's set up with small tables, cafe style and it's so sooo much fun.
If you are interested in going you can contact Brush Art Gallery for tickets and I suggest buying or at least reserving them in advance. Then let me know you are coming, so I can get my sister to reserve a big table (or a couple of tables) for everyone.

I have the best Dye-O-Rama Pal!!!
June 6, 2006 · 6 Comments
Check out all the goodies my Dye-O-Rama Pal, Elizabeth (aka ModernGypsy) sent to me!!! I know the photo is lousy and doesn't begin to show the true beauty of the yarn, it's blues and greens and plums – just gorgeous! I can't wait to start knitting socks! And yes, those are 3 batts of fiber to SPIN! – The beads are SCENTED! I'm going to have to fight my DD for those – Nag Champa is her favorite scent. Maybe I will spare her a few. Some lovely scented soap, a bookmarker, a cute card with cows! A silly button (I'll have to fight my DD for that too). Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I love, *love*, LOVE it all.
