Singing the vacation song

I’m taking off for our camping trip to Maine.  I will be incommunicado for at least a week then back to civilization sometime during the last week in August.

Take care and behave while I’m gone.  I wouldn’t want to miss any of the fun!

Is it time to go yet?

August 14, 2007 · 7 Comments

The week before you go on vacation is usually a crazy one.  I’m trying to get things tied up and cleaned out at work.  I’m attempting to gather together all the camping equipment that was neatly put away last year, but ’someone’ has rummaged through the stuff and scattered it to the four corners of the basement.

I really, Really, REALLY need a vacation.  Two weeks in a row, sweet!  Now if I could only run away from home and leave the kid and cats behind that would be perfect.  But alas the kid is going camping with me and some friends.  The cats get to stay home and protect the house.

I’ve been spinning up a storm  - here’s another picture of some finished superwash sock yarn

The colors are a bit brighter than this photo - I think we will call it Watermelon Lime Rickey

The Rainbow Connection

August 9, 2007 · No Comments

Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what’s on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
And rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we’ve been told and some choose to believe it
I know they’re wrong, wait and see.
Someday we’ll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

No, I didn’t get another card reader yet, this is from my new cellphone.

See there is more than one way to get pics up on the blog. LOL

Last night at Java Knitting and right after Nicole had arrived the skies opened up and torrential rains came down. We sat and watched the rising tide at the window. Within a few minutes the skies lightened and the rains stopped so we trooped outside to catch the rainbows - yes there were multiple rainbows.

Is there anything cooler than a rainbow?

I finished my monkey socks last night… the bad news I missed a repeat on the cuff and it’s about an inch shorter. (!#@$@#)

UPDATE:

For those of you who are plus size/full figured and want to have some input into pattern sizes from Interweave Knits.  The Knitting Daily newletter has a link to a survey.  They want to know your bust measurements.  So please go here and enter your info.

Crazy

August 7, 2007 · 3 Comments

Yes, it’s that crazy time of year. You want to know where the hell did the summer go? It’s August already!

Over the weekend I broke yet another tooth. I hate that my body is falling apart, especially my teeth. It makes me ill to think of all the money I keep pouring into my teeth. Had I invested that money into fiber… well lets just say it would be an indecent stash, the envy of everyone.

Last night I went to another Spinner’s game - I love that our local team is named for Spinner’s - check out their logo! Unfortunately they did not win last night… and this was supposed to be a morale builder for our group of about 30 - only 16 tickets were sold and only 3 of us showed up. Granted it had been raining that afternoon, but the evening was perfectly wonderful. This is why I refer to my fellow employees as COW-orkers, after a friends miss-spelling many years ago. But cow-ORKER seems a fitting description.

It was good I took my knitting but got very little done, since we were sitting in the pop-fly area and I had to keep my wits about me.

I did finish spinning the raspberry colored superwash roving. I’m going to ply it tonight if I get a chance.

Look ahead at the week we are are going to see Bob Weir and the Rat Dogs on Sunday in Lowell at Boarding House Park.

I’m almost finished with my Monkey Socks :) I really like this pattern a lot, although next time when I make them for me I won’t take the pattern down into the foot. I dislike that feeling in my shoes. But I will definitely knit this pattern again. I will need to add an extra pattern chunk to get them over my fat feet, but I think that will work out just fine. I wonder if anyone else has embiggened the Monkey Sock :)

My Mystery Stole is still sitting awaiting the frog pond. I really do want to finish this, but knowing the Theme has sort of taken the wind out of my sails. I think the pattern as designed with the wing will be very dramatic and beautiful so I want to do this right, eventually. But I need to restart this project soon, just not right now.

Part of wanting to procrastinate on the Mystery Shawl is that I am already starting to panic about the holidays. Only 139 days until Christmas. If you need to know exactly how long check here. I really would like to do an afghan for my Dad. He is always cold and would love it to toss over himself while watching TV. Hmmmm I wonder if there are Shawls for men, what do you think? Probably not… that is probably where the afghan or lap blanket came into being.

And I really, really, really want to knit a sweater for me. A big oversized comfortable slouchy sweater. I’m looking so if you have any ideas or suggestions send them my way. I’m thinking raglan sleeves, maybe 6 x 2 rib pattern. I’m not sure about the body, but no turtlenecks. I hate turtlenecks.

Vacation is getting closer. We are still planning on heading off to Hermit Island for a week, one of the last two weeks in August. I just hope the weather is nice and dry this year.

And finally the reason that there are no pictures in this post is that I have purchased two, yes that is TWO xD memory card readers, since the proverbial ’someone’ used the camera and broke the usb pins so I cannot connect the camera directly. Any way both of these readers crapped out after one use. I’ve ordered a third, keep your fingers crossed. I’m not sure if the USB port I am plugging them into is frying them, or they are just cheap junk - probably both. They seem to work once then never again.

Oh and one final notice/reminder:

The Westford spinning group is resuming their twice monthly meetings, starting on Tuesday, August 14th. I can hardly wait!

The Harlot is coming!

August 1, 2007 · 3 Comments

That’s right… Stephanie is coming to Borders Bookstore in Burlington, MA tomorrow evening (August 2nd) at 7:00pm.  You will need to reserve a spot so call Borders for that.

I am planning on going over after work and thought I would grab some dinner at the Burlington Mall Food Gallery so if anyone else wants to grab some food before heading over meet me there around 5:30PM

UPDATE:  We are going to meet at the Wayside Commons for dinner instead?

Tonight is Java Room knitting night in Chelmsford.

My new dishwasher was delivered last week and the guy came to install it yesterday.  My mom was nice enough to hang at my house to let the installers in.  If you have been reading long enough you might remember the nightmare I had with Home Depot and getting some bathroom tiles installed.  Well, enough time had passed and much like giving birth the pain of that experience had faded.

The other thing that sucks you in is that at least at my Home Depot the people there are really nice and helpful.  And in light of the recent shake up with Home Depot and their 3rd-party installers, I thought I would give them another try.

Just shoot me in the head now…

Mom called to let me know that they had finished and left and that they were nice, polite and appeared to do a nice job, and that it was running, and very quiet.

Mom left…

About a half hour later I get a call from DD who of course decided to check out the new dishwasher and when she opened it she discovered that the idiots had left all the packing materials, INCLUDING the product registration card, AND they had also failed to take the edge gaskets out and install them.  These are just little plastic fillers that seal the edges between the dishwasher and the adjacent cabinets.

WTF!  Didn’t they open the dishwasher BEFORE they turned it on and ran it… and didn’t they NOTICE that those little plastic strips were missing?!!!

I had her put all the wet soggy mess into a bag for me to take up to Home Depot when I explain my extreme displeasure once again.

Home Depot - strike 3 you are out!

This leads me to my OH SHIT moment this morning.  I’m late as usual and as I am driving through a construction detour with policemen everywhere I glance over and realize that my car inspection sticker has a “7″ on it.  SEVEN!!! Today is August 1st.  YIKES - so I quickly detoured first to an ATM as inspection stations only take cash, then on to find an inspection station - actually I had to go to three before I found one open and with a working computer.  I now have a red ‘8′ on my windshield.

Is it time to go home yet?
